CARE & MAINTENANCE

Vegetable-tanned leather is a natural material that ages with use and can last for many years with proper care. It breathes and reacts to sun and moisture, which affect both color and structure. To maintain durability, clean and treat it regularly.

Protection

Protect your bag before first use against moisture and stains. Treat Oily Navy Nubuck with a transparent nubuck spray. Natural leather can be treated with a spray or conditioner for a more even patina. Always test on a small, hidden area first.

Cleaning

Clean with a dry, soft cloth. Remove stains immediately and avoid strong cleaning products or hard rubbing. Surface stains can be removed gently with a clean, uncolored eraser or a leather eraser. For larger stains, use leather soap or a mild leather cleaner. Always use a gentle hand, follow instructions, avoid excess moisture, and test on a hidden area.

Moisture

Do not dry wet leather on a radiator or in a drying cabinet. Fill the bag with paper or soft cloths and let it dry slowly at room temperature. Replace damp paper if needed. Place the bag on a flat surface to maintain its shape.

Leather Treatment

When the leather is clean, it may need nourishment. Moisturizing products vary between brands, but in general oils penetrate deeper, while conditioners, balms and waxes help maintain flexibility and provide a protective surface. Sprays form a light protective layer but do not nourish the leather. Choose products with natural ingredients, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and always test on a hidden area. If using oil, apply sparingly and wipe off any excess.

Everyday Care

Leather is a natural material that ages well with regular care. Keep your bag clean and dry to prevent stains and maintain its flexibility. Avoid overloading it, as heavy items can affect shape and cause wear on leather, metal parts, and seams. Always open the zipper fully and avoid sharp objects that may scratch the surface.

Storage

Before storing your bag, clean and treat the leather and allow it to dry properly. Store straps inside and fill the bag with soft cloths to maintain its shape. Avoid plastic bags; use a cotton dustbag or wrap it in a clean cotton cloth and store in a dry, well-ventilated space. Vegetable-tanned leather will continue to change over time. Natural leather darkens and softens with use, developing a unique character.

VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER

We use high-quality vegetable-tanned leather. The leather, sourced from European animals, is tanned in Italy, known for its long tradition of leather tanning.Vegetable tanning is the traditional method where organic materials and natural extracts are used instead of chrome and harmful chemicals. Vegetable-tanned leather is a material that tells a story. Marks and color variations occur naturally and are evidence that we use genuine natural materials in an artisanal production.

Vegetable-tanned leather changes in surface and texture over time. Rain, moisture, and sunlight cause light leather to darken, and everyday friction can give the leather a shinier surface. Small natural color variations that may appear on new bags made of untreated natural leather become less noticeable as the leather darkens.

Vegetable-tanned leather is naturally stiff before it is used but softens quickly. A shoulder strap may feel stiff initially, but after a short period, the leather will have softened and conformed to your shoulder.

All Eduards Accessories products are delivered untreated so that you can influence how the leather ages. Untreated natural leather is the base of Eduards Accessories' range, but our products are also available in a palette of other classic colors.

NATURE: UNDYED NATURAL VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER

Natural leather is untreated vegetable-tanned leather in its most natural state. The light surface reacts to sunlight, moisture, and use, gradually darkening and developing a patina. You can influence the process with leather care, but the material will continue to change over time and cannot be fully protected from marks and stains. Each bag develops its own character.

OILY NAVY NUBUCK

Oily Navy Nubuck is a light grey-blue vegetable-tanned leather with a sanded surface that gives it a soft, velvety texture. Nubuck is a sensitive material that changes with use; the surface becomes shinier with friction, and the color shifts when exposed to light and moisture.

Before use, the leather should be treated with a nubuck spray to reduce sensitivity to moisture. Always test on a hidden area, as treatment may affect color and texture. Reapply as needed according to the product instructions.

Use products specifically intended for nubuck leather for cleaning and protection. Avoid leather balm, oil, or grease, as they settle on the surface and alter the character of the material.

PATCHY

Patchy is a combination of Black, Medium Brown, and Cognac vegetable-tanned leather with a light sheen. The leather is firm when new but softens with use.
